Possums -- eight pelt sample by AtypicalAnimal Possums -- eight pelt sample by AtypicalAnimal
These are eight of the nineteen possums I got at the auction yesterday (all of them were killed by local trappers). I tried fleshing some this morning, and found out two things: that possums have a very consistent layer of fat, and that the skin is ridiculously easy to tear. Hopefully by possum #5 or so I'll have a technique down, but I've already practically destroyed one of them. I'm hoping that once they're tanned, I can sell them for maybe $15-$25 each? Maybe? I still have to do the math to see how much I have to charge bare minimum to turn a small profit. But now I see why no one here on dA sells possums -- they're a pain to flesh x.x
The possums on the right are female, the ones on the left are male. Feel free to ask questions.

I'll buy 1 or 2, heck I'll even take the chopped up one if you cant find a use for it, I need ALL the possums!!! XD

Preferably, if and when they're ready I'd love a darker one with white in the ears and a lighter face, if you have something like that!

Well, I have nineteen of the tricky fellows (actually, probably more. The seller miscounted, and my group of six actually had eight. I wonder how man pelts my group of eleven actually has?). I'll have plenty for sale, and I'm guessing I have a couple that match your description.

I've noticed with working with trappers a lot of time when you buy raw materials they'll a lot times toss in extra goodies, I bought 3 pelts (raw) from one gut and he basically threw in a whole extra raccoon in pieces. That's what I'm practicing on. The same thing happened with a guy I bought skulls from, he tossed in a few extras.

Very well could be, though the second the grouping of skins goes up on the table, the trapper never touches them again. So he would have never known who would get them. But it makes a lot more sense than him just throwing a bunch of possums on there and calling it good. Not too hard to count eight of them, and not six.

Ahh, well you never know :p

Either way, you seem like you got quite a deal since you got so many to work with it looks like I'm going to have a little bit of time to save up a bit of money to send your way XD

Ha ha, yeah, I've got my work cut out for me. I have to finish a paper for school today, but once that's done, it's right back to the workroom with me!

Should be less then $2.00 for a huge box. Use can use it to scrub the sink and tub and wash up all the towels and clothes you yucky up while fleshing ;p

Ok, by use it, I mean to dust it on the pelt for added grip while fleshing. It took me way too long to figure out that trick, you can't use it while skinning an animal intended for food though.

You're gonna save me so much time and frustration. Thankee :)
And I don't think I'll be trying "possum fat soup" any time soon, heheh.
